Nick Arcade version
One of the Nick Arcade episodes featured an unfinished version of the 16-bits Sonic 2, and it was probably the Alpha version everybody's looking for.
Only two stages could be seen: Emerald Hill (with the Star Light Zone music) and the Chemical Plant demo.

What differences can be found when comparing these two screenshots? First of all, the lower buildings seem to be purple instead of golden, but this could be caused by the low quality of the picture. The real difference can be seen in the second huge building. You can see the size was altered after the Nick Arcade version. |
